Marvel Comics & X-Men: The Onslaught Revelation #1 Spoilers & Review: Mutants Get Religion Sorta As A New X-Men Team Emerges!

John Babos | September 23, 2021 | Spoilers | No Comments

Marvel Comics and X-Men: The Onslaught Revelation #1 Spoilers and Review follows.

Mutants Get Religion Sorta As…

…A New X-Men Team Emerges!

The book includes a storyline catch-up from the Nightcrawler led Way of X series as part of…

…a page with a dramatis personae and creators credits.

Looks like Onslaught’s scheming…

…has enveloped Professor X Charles Xavier for some time…

…with the once esteemed mentor and leader of the X-Men seemingly deleting those mutants he wishes from a database of sorts so that they do benefit from the resurrection protocol?!

In case you’re not familiar with Onslaught below is a classic Marvel Handbook Who’s Who type bio for the character.

Anyhow, back to our story…

…Onslaught is planning for a bloodbath at…

…an X-Celebration or an X-Rave of sorts!

Magneto is freed from is mental fog and wants to go after his Professor X who runs off (in a very uncharacteristic Charles Xavier way)…

…Onslaught’s party bloodbath plans are ruined, but…

…he decides to reconstitute himself in a new less cool look than his OG self.

Nightcrawler has a plan…

…involving a new Way of X, not a religion, that…

…seems to key to…

…crushing Onslaught quite literally.

The book ends with a tease of a new Legionaires X-team, but…

…whatever they are called they aren’t a religious cult or police, but they debut in 2022 with Juggernaut too!

The Pulse:

Solid art, decent plot, but confusing characterization. I am intrigued by what is to come with a few X-books have been on the chopping black in recent months including, seemingly, Way of X. Cool to see Onslaught back, but was hoping for more of him. 6 out of 10.

Plus some symbols to go with that revelation?!

X-Men: Trial Of Magneto #2 Spoilers follows.

The issue too has a fair number of variant covers in addition to the main cover above.

The issue includes a storyline catch-up, dramatis personae and creators credits page…

…as Professor Xavier and Jean Grey attempt to use their powers to dicern what happened to Scarlet Witch…

…her teammates the Avengers also want answers.

At the same time…

…readers get inside the head of a risen Scarlet Witch.

Magneto wants none of the mind powers tomfoolery and…

…admits to murdering the Scarlet Witch, but…

…her returns unmasks that lie quickly?!

Vision and Scarlet Witch are reunited which begs the question what Magneto is on the trial for if she’s alive?

Next up is X-Men: Trial of Magneto #3 in stores on October 20, 2021.

Marvel reports.

Kingpin’s New Thunderbolts Begin the Purge of Marvel’s Super Heroes in ‘Devil’s Reign’

Check out the cover of ‘Devil’s Reign’ #2 and learn about new tie-ins to the upcoming Marvel Comics event!

The recently announced Marvel Comics event DEVIL’S REIGN launches this December with two exciting issues!

The highly anticipated saga from writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Marco Checchetto will see Kingpin on a vicious quest to rid the world of Super Heroes through any means necessary, and he’ll have an army of Super Villains at his command to see it through. Consisting of Crossbones, Taskmaster, Typhoid Mary, Shocker, Whiplash, Rhino, and Kraven, this deadly new team of Thunderbolts will report for duty in DEVIL’S REIGN #2 and represent only the opening salvo of Kingpin’s plan to remake the Marvel Universe in his own image.

“Our Daredevil plan just kept getting bigger and bigger, to the point where it would clearly affect the Marvel Universe in huge ways,” Zdarsky explained. “Thankfully, Marvel recognized this as well and gave Marco and I the opportunity to tell the story on a massive stage with DEVIL’S REIGN! This is a proper Marvel event springing from the pages of Daredevil and I think all Marvel readers will love what’s coming!”

DEVIL’S REIGN will also tie into some of your favorite ongoing series including December’s SPIDER-WOMAN #18 by series creative team, writer Karla Pacheco and artist Pere Pérez. Mayor Wilson Fisk is purging vigilantes from his city, and Spider-Woman is on his list! Fisk will do anything to bring her down, including going after her loved ones. It’s all on the line for Spider-Woman during DEVIL’S REIGN!

Here’s what Pacheco had to say about what’s come for Jessica Drew: “When Chip first asked about tying Spider-Woman into this spectacular event, I immediately said ‘How did you get this number, and what do you want?’ Okay, actually it was more me begging ‘PLEAAAAASE CHIP!!! LET ME AND PERE BE A PART OF THIS BIG AWESOME THINGY! WE LOVE DEADPOOL AND *YOU*. After he corrected me that it was a DAREDEVIL event, we were still really stoked about it. I can’t wait for everyone to see how Jessica Drew handles the chaos Wilson Fisk is bringing to her world, and we have some absolutely explosive issues coming up. DEVIL’S REIGN threatens everyone Jess loves, AND brings back one of her greatest nemesisiseses in a way I don’t think anyone will see coming. Especially not Jess!”

Be there when Kingpin brings his full criminal and political power to bear on all of Marvel’s Super Heroes—from the Fantastic Four to the X-Men.

Stay tuned for more announcement about upcoming DEVIL’S REIGN tie-in series including January’s DEVIL’S REIGN: VILLAINS FOR HIRE!

Who Are The Avengers Forever Headlining New Multiverse Series?

Marvel reports.

Avengers from Across the Multiverse Assemble in Jason Aaron and Aaron Kuder’s ‘Avengers Forever’

The new ongoing Avengers series arrives this December!

This December, prepare to enter the ever-fascinating and unpredictable Marvel Comics Multiverse in AVENGERS FOREVER.

Announced last week, AVENGERS FOREVER will be a new ongoing Avengers series from two of today’s most outstanding Super Hero masterminds: writer Jason Aaron and artist Aaron Kuder. Spinning out of the cataclysmic events of AVENGERS #750 and operating in lockstep with Jason Aaron’s prime AVENGERS series, this latest great Avengers epic will feature the Mightiest Heroes of every Earth as they assemble for one of the greatest battles the Marvel Universe has ever witnessed. Throughout this saga, fans can expect appearances by fan-favorite characters from across the Multiverse such as Captain Carter, America Chavez, Starhawk and more along with brand-new reimagined heroes like the Invincible Ant-Man that will take the world by storm!

It begins with a quest for cosmic vengeance. Ghost Rider finds himself roaring through the wasteland on a ruined Earth, where the great age of heroes never came to be, where hope is a four-letter word and where his only ally in the coming battle against the greatest villains any universe has ever seen is the world’s most wanted archaeologist, Tony Stark…the Invincible Ant-Man.

“AVENGERS #50 lights the fire. AVENGERS FOREVER is the explosion that follows,” Jason Aaron explained. “A slam bang supernova of a megabomb that sends shockwaves across all of reality, to earth after earth that’s been defaced by the new Multiversal Masters of Evil, to the ruins of Asgard at the end of time, to an Avengers Tower that sits atop a bedrock of fallen gods at Infinity’s End. Along the way, we meet some new versions of Avengers we know, as well as witness the return of some dear old friends, in a series that will swing for the fences with each and every issue, as the Mightiest Heroes of all the Earths in the heavens look to assemble as never before.”

“Completely stoked to be working on AVENGERS FOREVER… In space no one can hear you scream. In alternate realities, no one can tell you ‘that doesn’t fit with continuity,’” Kuder said. “It is a huge blast to work together on this with Jason. The over-the-top nature of this, the craziness of the scope…that is, in my opinion, one of Jason’s strongest storytelling flexes. This is going to be a blast for anyone on this ride.”

Meet the Multiverse’s Mightiest Heroes when AVENGERS FORVEVER #1 hits stands on December 22.

…Includes A 6th Sinister Six?!

We’ll start with Sinister War #2 and all its variant covers.

Plus its main cover.

Then a storyline catch-up and creators credits page.

The issues includes how Foreigner’s Wild Pack…

…Beetle’s Sinister Syndicate…

He wants them to take down Spider-Man and if they can’t…

…he seems ready to try to get Doctor Octopus’ Secret Six and the Vulture’s Savage Six to do it over the dead bodies of his current sextets pawns.

The book ends its present day story midway in the issue with the Sinister Syndicate’s Lady Kraven impaling the Amazing Spider-man!

Now onto Sinister War #3 and all its variant covers.

Plus its main cover.

The issue also includes a storyline catch-up and creators credits page.

We’re now in the present where a self-medicated Spider-Man is dealing with Lady Kraven’s attack and…

…fighting off the Sinister Six.

There is really no honour amongst villains as they can’t decide on who will kill Spidey, but their simmering sinister civil war is…

…interrupted by the Savage Six!

The Superior Foes of Spider-man comes to his aid…

…as the five current sinister sextets battle.

The book ends with Kindred having resurrected the Sin-Eater who forms his own Sinister Six including Morlun, Grey Gargoyle, Whirlwind, Living Laser, Juggernaut and himself (Sin-Eater); this sinister sextet is being reported to be the Sinful Six.

Kindred is really to have it all end with Spider-Man paying for his sin.

Marvel Comics & S.W.O.R.D. #7 Spoilers & Review: Doomed & Exposed During Annihilation?!

John Babos | August 25, 2021 | Spoilers | No Comments

Marvel Comics and S.W.O.R.D. #7 Spoilers and Review follows.

Doomed and…

…Exposed…

…During Annihilation?!

Ruler of Latveria, Doctor Doom, of late of the Guardians of the Galaxy, is…

…breaking bread with the Empress of Mars, Storm, leader of the X-Men and of presumably of S.W.O.R.D.

At the same time Annihilation rages and leads to the destruction of Emperor Hulkling’s mystical sword.

That leads to Doom indicating that he knows the real origins of the mutant mystery metal that they have made available to all planets, in exchange for accepting their claim on Mars, is…

…really magical and from another realm; not a mutant creation.

At the same time, the S.W.O.R.D. team prepares to enter the Annihilation fray as…

…Storm ends dinner and…

…sends Doctor Doom packing.

The book ends with S.W.O.R.D. arriving…

…where a wounded Emperor Hulkling broods while…

…the battle is joined!

The Pulse:

Action, intrigue and drama. Solid art. While I am not reading the broader Annihilation event, this issue was pretty accessible. A fun read. 7 out of 10.

Marvel Comics and Cable Reloaded #1 Spoilers and Review follows.

An Agent Of S.W.O.R.D…

…Grappling With…

…Annihilation!

Well, old man Cable is back…

…as an Agent of S.W.O.R.D. like his teen self was.

He’s also teaming with Rocket Raccoon, who he deeply respects, on a…

…mission during the Annihilation event.

He needs a new arm after planetfall and plants a seed to open a Krakoan gat so the…

…the rest of his team, an X-Force if you will, can join him.

They dispatch the aliens of Breakworld after they attack only to later confront a giant mech…

…that they take down and…

…convert to a big gun that…

…S.W.O.R.D. has the ammo for.

The Pulse:

Nice to see OG Cable back, but the story was so-so and the interior art was not visually pleasing. This didn’t feel relevant to the broader Annihilation event and didn’t really advance what’s next for Cable unless this steps up the post Killshot new X-Force. Solid covers though. 5.5 out of 10.

John Babos | August 24, 2021 | Spoilers | No Comments

Marvel Comics and Children Of The Atom #6 Spoilers and Review follows.

An X-Men Hellfire Gala Tie-In…

…To End The Series?!

We open with a storyline catch-up, dramatis personae and creators credits page.

It appears that Gimmick is the only mutant on this team and she’s been invited by Storm to the Hellfire Gala.

Gimmick does attend and is marveling at the pageantry, but…

…misses her friends.

She also comes out to her family as a mutant which only deepens their familial bond.

Gimmick later joins a battle with her teammates…

…after which they declare their support of…

…whatever decision she makes as to which “world” she will be in.

Well, it looks like Gimmick will stay as a member of the Children of the Atom as…

…love blossoms with her teammate and team leader Cyclops-Lass.

The Pulse:

This series had such potential, but the pandemic delay to its launch had it start from behind the eight ball. The changing of the art teams didn’t help either. I enjoyed these kids, of which only one was a mutant, and their adventures. Hope we’ll see them again. This issue was ok, but ends optimistically. 7 out of 10.

Marvel Comics and Iron Man #10 Spoilers and Review follows.

A Trippy Issue With…

…Not One Korvac Sighting?!

We open with a storyline catch-up and creators credits page…

…then get into the action of…

…Iron Man stranded on some distant world with…

…other refugees…

…that gets along better with…

…than the Avengers?!

Stilt-Man is here too with Yar as the “face” leader of the community, but he’s not the “man behind the curtain”.

Iron Man seems to allegedly be communicating with Hellcat or that may be the morphine talking?

The book ends with an Ultimo attacking and Avro-X, Stilt-Man and Iron Man teaming up and defeating the threat as…

…Iron Man goes all-in with their new alien world community.

The Pulse:

I actually missed Korvac’s scheming this issue, but I was also roped into the mystery of where the heck Iron Man is, how he got there and who is behind it all if not Korvac. Solid art too. 7.5 out of 10.

Captain America and his nemesis Red Skull break bread…

…with Cap getting him to talk and talk and talk and…

…having the people learn what Red Skull really thinks of them.

Then, Sinthea “Sin” Shmidt, Red Skull’s daughter, becomes “Superior” in the end.

We get a touching afterword by writer Ta-Nehisi Coates to end his run almost at the same time as his Black Panther run ended (full spoilers here).

Next up is the United States of Captain America limited series whose first issue we had a look at (full spoilers here).

The Pulse:

A very chatty end to writer Ta-Nehisi Coates’ run. Amazing art by Leonard Kirk though. 6 out of 10.

Then the action as the Savage Six attack Mary Jane Watson’s movie premiere as…

…they’re after her producer partner who is actually…

…Spider-Man foe or frenemy Mysterio.

He has back up in the form of the Sinister Six and…

…both teams battle.

It all leads back to Mary Jane’s bargain with Mephisto in 2007’s One More Day.

Mysterio escapes with MJ as…

…Kindred confronts Spider-Man…

…as even more villains attack!

How will this play out and is Kindred or Mephisto the puppet master here?

This followed news that new ongoing adjectiveless Hulk series debuts in November 2021.

Marvel reports.

Giant-Sized ‘Immortal Hulk’ #50 Concludes Al Ewing & Joe Bennett’s Legendary Run

The 80-page final issue arrives in October!

The end of one of the most critically-acclaimed comic runs in recent history will arrive this October. Writer Al Ewing and artist Joe Bennett will close out their horror-infused work on Bruce Banner in IMMORTAL HULK #50, a special giant-sized issue that will present the groundbreaking conclusion to years of buildup, mystery, and Gamma-powered additions to the Hulk mythology.

Throughout the past 49 issues, the all-star creative team has taken the iconic Marvel hero to places no creator has dared to go—through the Green Door and beyond! Now, they bid farewell to the Green Goliath, having redefined the character with a genre-bending exploration of both his powerful alter-ego and his humanity.

The final issue will find the Hulk down in the Below-Place as he searches among the ghosts of the past for the answers to all his questions. The dramatic ending will not only shed light on what’s next for Hulk but also reveal the future of the One Below All, the Green Door, the Leader, Jackie McGee, Joe Fixit, and more!

“IMMORTAL HULK #50 is the climax of everything we’ve done in this book, an 80-page crescendo that spans over a century and contains the answers to some of the biggest questions of the run,” Ewing promises. “This is how it all ends – and we think it’ll be worth the wait.”

Marvel reports.

Amazing Spider-man #75 Kicks Off A New Era Brought To Life By An All-Star Lineup Of Artists

Check out artwork from Pat Gleason, Sara Pichelli, Michael Dowling, and Arthur Adams, the artists behind the new run of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN starting in October!

…[earlier this month], Marvel announced that a team of superstar writers will assemble this October for a brand new run of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. Zeb Wells, Kelly Thompson, Saladin Ahmed, Cody Ziglar, and Patrick Gleason have crafted a saga beyond anything that’s come before in Spider-Man history, and the soon-to-be thrice-monthly series will boast an all-star team of amazing artists. Writer/artist Patrick Gleason will be the bedrock of the team, leading the design and doing the art on the over-sized milestone issue AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #75 . Joining him will be acclaimed artist Sara Pichelli, the co-creator of Miles Morales doing her first work on Amazing Spider-Man, as well as Michael Dowling, known for his incredible work on Black Cat. In addition, comic book legend Arthur Adams will grace this epic run with his amazing artwork on each and every cover. And this is just the tip of the iceberg for the legends who will be bringing this revolutionary epic to you!

Here’s what Editor Nick Lowe had to say about this upcoming era:

“When we started building ‘Beyond’ we knew we had to pull out all the stops from the artistic side. That began with making sure Patrick Gleason was with us from the get-go as a writer AND an artist. His recent webhead covers have rocked the industry showing yet another element to the incredible career that we all saw on display during his run on Amazing Spider-Man. He quickly stepped up to be our artistic cornerstone, but we also needed to make sure that whoever else joined him were elite talents.”

“Sara Pichelli is an absolute legend, creating some of the most impactful work of the last ten years. It’s crazy to think this will be her first time drawing Amazing Spider-Man, and she’s already blown us away with her masterful work. Michael Dowling’s work on Unfollow and other works got him hired for Black Cat, but his work there showed us that he would be an absolute superstar, and his issues are already blowing our minds. And then, to be able to land Arthur Adams as our cover artist. I mean, from his classic X-Men Annuals to today, Arthur has defined the Marvel Universe visually as much as almost anyone. So to have him here? I’m beyond excited. And wait until we reveal the rest of our all-star roster!”

Don’t forget to check out FREE COMIC BOOK DAY 2021: SPIDER-MAN/VENOM on August 14th for your first glimpse at what’s to come in this exciting new age of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN! Check out upcoming covers, variant covers, and artwork from the first three series artists and stay tuned for more information, including the grand reveal of the main cover for AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #75!

Here’s some interior preview art Marvel has released.

Marvel Comics and Children Of The Atom #6 Spoilers and Review follows.

X-Men Team-Up…

…Kids’ “Powers” Exposed…

…Hellfire Gala and…

…Stealth Reveal That THIS Is A Mini-Series!

Well, the book opens with spilling the secrets of the Children of Atom and confirms they are not mutants, but have tech-based super-powers.

The X-Men have come to the team’s aid…

…to take on their would-be kidnappers.

The X-Men alone are no match for them, but…

…with the freed Children of the Atom…

…together they turn the tide, win, shooing off the the threat!

The book ends with the X-Men telling the kids its time for them to go home despite the good they just did.

However, despite Cyclops and team’s cold exit, and knowing the team are not mutants, the government of Krakoa nonetheless recognizes publicly the aid the Children of the Atom have given to mutants and thanks them.

The book ends with Storm’s return and…

…inviting latent mutant Gimmick to the Hellfire Gala that chronologically in-continuity just concluded.

Also, you see the “to be concluded” box at the end signaling the send of the series next issue confirmed by no solicitations after that issue as well; Children of the Atom #6 lands in stores on August 11, 2021.

The Pulse:

Lots of action, drama and super-heroics. Decent art. Entertaining. 7 out of 10.

Marvel Comics & Avengers #46 Spoilers & Review: Who Are The Traitors On BOTH Avengers & Winter Guard As World War She-Hulk Begins?!

John Babos | July 9, 2021 | Spoilers | No Comments

Marvel Comics and Avengers #46 Spoilers and Review follows.

Who Are The…

…Traitors On BOTH…

…Avengers and Winter Guard As…

…World War She-Hulk Begins!

Looks like Gorilla-Man…

…betrays the Avengers to the Winter Guard.

They’re after She-Hulk who they…

…attempt to arrest for Mother Russia.

Gorilla-Man also directly beats on and betrays Iron Man sans helmet.

She-Hulk escapes, but eventually captured by the whole of the Winter Guard.

Looks like the Winter Guard’s traitor is Ursa Major who the Red Widow kills?!

Looks like Gorilla-Man is a reluctant traitor and that Dracula looms large as a puppet master of the Winter Guard…

…a la Phil Coulson to the Squadron Supreme of America as seen in earlier issues.

Anyhow, looks like She-Hulk has been taken to…

…the Red Room made infamous by Black Widow!

Next up is Avengers #47 on shelves on August 4, 2021.

The Pulse:

With the MCU Black Widow film out today, it is not surprising we’d have a Russian centric story arc next up. #Synergy as they as they. Still, the Winter Guard are a fave of mine and now they’re definitely more Russia’s Avengers with their larger cast. Dracula’s looming presence is concerning for a villain I care little fore. Intrigued by the Widow She-Hulk teased at the end of the book; I resisted calling her Red She-Hulk as that’s someone else. Decent art. 7.5 out of 10.

Reign Of X Is Here and Shakes Everything Up?!

Plus Over 40 Variant Covers!

The preceding two covers are the front and back of the main cover by Pepe Larraz that look like the below together.

A sampling of the variant covers are below and total over 40 if you factor are the textless versions of the below. The first variant covers make up this piece of art together. Following it are more variants.

The opening of the book includes a storyline catch-up, dramatis personae and creators credits page all rolled in one.

Then we see a wealthy businessman who had invested his money and others to be the first to populate Mars gutted by the fact the mutants of Arakko in the blink of an eye have taken over the planet.

We then pivot to downtown New York City where the X-Men of Krakoa have a big presence…

…via a new rather complex new HQ.

Later a giant robotic alien lands and attacked Rogue…

…which brings the rest of the X-Men.

They pool their powers to create a giant mech…

…to fight fire with fire as the saying goes.

They’re ultimately successful and…

…explore the alien’s origins.

Elsewhere, on Gameworld it looks like aliens of all kinds…

…are using Earth as part of some kind of cosmic bet as the High Evolutionary is teased.

The book ends with…

…a mutant reborn, but…

…dying as someone explores how the mutants can resurrect from the dead.

The Pulse:

A rather compelling, multi-faceted over-sized issue. Action, mystery, drama and more. Solid art. A fun read. 8 out of 10.
